Beate's Bowls

I'm 50 years young, married, and I have two nice boys (15 and 16 years old--yes, they like to be OLD!!!) I live in Hamburg, Germany, and have been sewing since I was 16 years old. I've been doing patchwork/applique since 2005. I wanted to make these bowls more special and interesting, so I thought I'd make more with a theme. Firstly, I made the dark blue bowls...because I do love blue...I think, it's easy to see. I thought about bowls in an old cupboard with white borders around the bowls. Than I thought that is boring, so I decided to make another story with my bowls.

I imagined it to be pottery and I added a price list for my bowls. I love everything with wings (owls!) and I also love the sun and the moon! So I added both of them in the frame. Yes, I do love colors, for sure! I have lots of scraps and large fabrics, so I found the right colors to be nice together. I tried to have more white in the middle, but now I think I found the right mixture of colors. I played a little bit with roses… this collection is called rose garden…. And one lonely rosebowl you can find in the pink cupboard! The owls, four bowls with owls, for a perfect breakfast together!

I loved to make it and I thank Carol so much for organizing this wonderful opportunity to make me work! It has been nice to spend time on me!

Now that you've seen my bowls, check out the

  74. What an amazing quilt! I think my favorite part is when you said "it has been nice to spend time on me." I've noticed that when designers get into their own space and enjoy the ride, what they create is always jaw-dropping because it's parts love & intuition alongside creativity. The owls are gorgeous and the price...well...I'll take 2!!
